Most of my favorites are listed in my OkCupid profile, but I’d like to highlight some here. (And, no, other than being a non-paying member/registrant of some of these websites, I’m not affiliated with them at all. No shilling I !)
- lifelessons is a blog by Judy Dykstra-Brown. She started it in support of a book she wrote with Tony Moriarty called Lessons from a Grief Diary: Rebuilding Your Life after the Death of a Loved One. (I was fortunate to be involved from early on while they were writing it. It’s truly a wonderful book.) She has since expanded her blog to include poetry, wasp relocation, photos, and musings on life. I really urge you to take a look.
- OkCupid.com, of course. Every other dating site I’ve looked at puts up paywalls, making them virtually useless if you, like me, are
too cheap to pony up the bucksvalue-minded. And if you take some time to truthfully answer a hundred or more questions, I think their matching algorithm is superb. They have some extra features you can pay for, but there’s really no need. - Roger Ebert’s blog is a big reason I started my own. I hoped to get mine up & running, then send him a thank-you message. It’s too late for that now.
- I’ve mentioned my fondness for the Oxford comma. Here is a bolstering argument from Mr. Ebert.
- My go-to source for
allmost things wordly is Merriam-Webster (well, damned pop-up LowerMyBill ads notwithstanding). There I discovered their “ask the editor” video series, which led me to Kory Stamper’s wonderful blog. - I struck through “all” up there because I have a different go-to source for etymologies – The Online Etymological Dictionary.
- If you’re not reading The Onion, there is something seriously wrong with you. (And if you are reading it, there is something seriously wrong with you, but in a high-five kinda way.)
- Snopes is very good internet-crazy-rumor bane.
Did you know that time is a snake? I’d like to hear what you have to say about it.
Thanks, by the way, for recommending my blog. I’m in good company up there. Snopes, Roger Ebert, OkCupid. We are an exclusive bunch!
