“Well,. Here I am.”

Yes, that is indeed a comma immediately followed by a period in that quote above. It’s the last line spoken in the last episode (well, the last natural episode – I’ll explain that later) of Joss Whedon’s wonderful (albeit unjustly abbreviated) tv series Firefly. You really have to see that episode, Objects in Space, and hear the line delivered to appreciate why I include both comma and period.

That paragraph above may give you some crumpled inkling of what this blog will be like. I suppose some of you are shaking your heads, clucking your tongues, and clicking your way to the exit. Thanks for your visit. I do appreciate it. For anyone still here, I hope you enjoy the read.

Now, where was I? Oh, right.

Well,. Here I am. I’m known (well, mostly unknown) on OkCupid.com as forgottenman, and that’s where you can find out all  more than you really want to know enough about me. I really think OkCupid is awesome pretty good; however, the new overlords at Match.com have all but eviscerated access to its nifty old journal feature. So this is now my shiny, new OkC journal, all big empty white spaces waiting for me to fill with blah blah blah.

As Mal framed it so succinctly, “I aim to misbehave.”

(“languorous polemic”? C’mon, is that even a real thing, or am I already reduced to nailing random pretty adjectives onto cool innocent nouns?)

  1. Firefly aired on Fox in the U.S. in 2002. After broadcasting 11 of the 14 episodes shot, Fox cancelled it. Idiots. (The remaining 3 episodes finally aired the following summer.) Objects in Space was the tenth episode aired, but it was meant to be the final episode of the season.

  3. I have a bone to pick. I did in fact enter a search term in your “Friggin’ Hey!Stack” and find that you have nothing posted on the subject of “dirigibles.” What is the matter with you? How are you spending your days? Do you really expect us to keep checking out a blog that in one month has not made one mention of inflated and flammable air balloons?
Get with it, forgottenman, or you will truly be forgotten!!!!!!!

  4. Hi Forgottenman, I just wanted to let you know that I have nominated you for Very Inspiring Blogger award. You don’t have to do anything about it if you so wish. I didn’t want it to go unsaid that your comments on my blog have inspired me, not to mention your brilliant blog itself. Hope you are well. Bests, Sam. Here’s my post…http://wp.me/p4X3FK-cY

  5. I remember OKC. I met some nice people there, not that I would date, but that I like. The journal was a great feature of the site back when it was pink and in the transitional days of early blue. 2008ish. One of these people is an artist here in Colorado and when people asked us how we met (we’re both female and both straight) we really enjoy saying, “We met on a dating site.” I bailed from the site some years back (having realized I never ever ever wanted to date anyone again for the rest of my life) but I really enjoyed it for a couple of years. The not wanting to date stance made me feel like i had no right to hang around.

    • Hi Martha. I was out dancing the other night at a bar 5 1/2 hours from my home, when a woman came up and said,”Are you Judy Dykstra-Brown?” I said yes, and she said, “I’m ………” We, too, had met on OKC a few years ago and had some good conversations. We, too, are both straight. I think OKC is the only intro site I’d be interested in. I, too, miss the features such as the journals that Match.com took off when they purchased the site. Ah well. It still has the most interesting people and I don’t think it’s necessary to want to date to use the site. I must admit I don’t look at it much anymore, but now and then someone interesting does pop up. Judy

      • Just a couple of months ago I was emailed by a (nice and attractive) guy I’d had some exchanges with WAY back in 2009. I was really flattered because he is cool. But I did just tell him that I don’t think I’m going to live another 40 years and I’ve put a lot of my life into relationships already and there are things I feel a real urgency to do right now and I don’t want to gamble with time any more. Maybe if I accomplish some of the things I hope to I’ll feel differently.

OKC was really FUN back in 2008-2010. I took a break and went back in 2011 or 12 not knowing it had been sold and it did not feel like the same easy-going place and it felt more like a “dating site.”
